Oh Stephen!

STEPHEN FRY: WHAT I WISH I'D KNOWN WHEN I WAS 18 from Peter Samuelson on Vimeo.

This man could talk about almost anything and it would be appealing to listen to. He has this overwhelming wealth of knowledge on so many different subjects, a genuinely intelligent man, but what makes him so alluring is his sincerity and warmth, and his ease of expressing exactly what he means. Yes he's intelligent about a number of subjects, but you could read any of that in a book. What he's talking about here, just life in general, has come from his experience. It's half an hour long but sort of split into segments, but it's so worth listening to.

This is a much shorter clip, just a minute and a half but just love what he's saying here. Talking about self-pity and how counter-intuitive it is to indulge in it. You might be in a bad situation but once you start pitying yourself - you're digging a hole and it really does escalate a problem out of proportion and makes it become all-consuming. Very easy to think negatively, but quite a waste of energy really. I don't know, Stephen puts it perfectly anyway.
